1) Is attendance at the New Graduate Student Orientation (NGSO) mandatory?

No, the new graduate student orientation is not mandatory, although we do highly recommend you attend. The purpose of the orientation is to give you a sense of the resources and opportunities available to you on campus, but if you won’t be attending, we recommend visiting the Graduate Division and Grad Life websites for more information.

2) Will I be able to register for classes at the orientation?

No, registration for classes typically takes place on TritonLink. You should reach out to your department’s graduate coordinator to discuss course registration questions.

3) Should I attend orientation if I also attended UCSD as an undergraduate?

Although you may be familiar with many resources and spaces on campus, we recommend attending orientation to learn about what resources are specifically available to you as a graduate student.

4) Am I allowed to bring a family member or spouse/partner to the NGSO?

No, the orientation is only for incoming graduate students.

5) Am I allowed to bring a service animal to NGSO?
